He became popular as the director of the Kushboo starrer, Nattupurappattu. He followed it up with Ettuppattirasa with Napoleon, which also did reasonably well. Just when people began to categorize him as a director of village-based stories, he directed his debutante son, Dhanush in that teenagers’ film, Thulluvadho ilamai. The film catapulted Dhanush to overnight stardom. Dreamz followed and it sank without a trace. Now, he is working with newcomers in a film called Idhu Kaadhal Varum Neram. Harishkumar is the hero and Kiran is the heroine. For the first time, Kasturiraja will also score music for this film. Vairamuthu has written the lyrics.
