It is the film which marks a great milestone in Hindi film history. It broke all records for box office success. It had the most humanistic approach to the story of good prevailing over evil. All the ingredients of a mainstream Hindi film like romance, sentiment, comedy and action were mixed in the right proportion to bring in a heady product. The result – the film ran continuously for six years without a break. It marked the arrival of Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh, the dacoit. Gabbar and his gang had plundered the village of Ramgad and his exploits were brought to an end by the duo of Amitabh and Dharmendra. Sanjeev Kumar gave a sterling performance as the policeman whose hands were chopped off by Gabbar. It was he who masterminded the downfall of the deadly dacoit. Now, Ram Gopal Verma is bringing out another version of Sholay titled, Ram Gopal Verma’s Sholay, loosely based on the original. It deals with the topical issue of Mumbai’s underworld dons and their reign of terror. Three heroes join together to bring an end to it.
