Aishwarya Rai’s tryst
with films brought her immense
popularity as all her releases
were big hits. Jeans,
Hum dil de chuke sanam,
Mohabbatein, Devdas
etc and the list goes on.
Her foray into international
cinema was highlighted by
the Gurinder Chadha film,
Bride and Prejudice. She
found global acceptance
when she was recently invited
for the Cannes Film Festival.
However, post-Devdas, her
Hindi films have not done
too well. Raincoat and Shabd
sank without a trace. While
her superficial portrayal
of vulnerability in Raincoat
did not match with the tone
of Raincoat, her uncharacteristic
show of skin in Shabd was
the undoing. While media
reviews have brow beaten
her performance, Aish is
upset. She has said that
her earlier films showed
her in a certain light while
Shabd required glamour as
part of the story. Hence,
she had done justice to
the role. She would appear
as required by the mood
of the plot. Well, well...
a case of sour grapes?
