T. Rajendar(now Vijayarajendar)
broke all the stereotypes
in Tamil cinema to carve
out a niche for himself.
His unconventional looks
and drumming dialogues were
first in Tamil cinema. His
love stories revolved around
everyday individuals and
his screenplay brought out
the helplessness and dilemma
in a sensitive manner. Although
his films were tragedies,
they rewrote box office
history. The films had memorable
songs hummed to this day.
However, he did not keep
pace with changing times
and burnt his fingers with
a few forgettable films.
His foray into politics
also proved his undoing.
Meanwhile, he has groomed
his son Silambarasan to
take on the mantle. Now,
T.R. is busy as the hero
of Veerasamy in
which Mumtaz, one of his
protégés will
be the heroine. Her character
is called Chayakadai Sarasu.
TR has created eight mega
sets for the film in his
own Simbu Gardens where
the shooting is going on
in full swing.
