Q:
What is the rationale for the title Sudesi?
Vijayakanth:
My character is called Sudesi, because the hero’s
father is a freedom fighter.
Q:
How did Sudesi
overtake Perarasu?
Vijayakanth:
Well, you see, it just moved along smoothly. I had
decided on the script for Sudesi and before we knew
it we had finished shooting the entire film including
two songs. About Perarasu, only the film’s producer
can give you the answer.

Q:
Is Sudesi some kind of preview for your political entry?
Vijayakanth:
I’m sorry, you are mistaken thoroughly if you thought
so. It is an out and out family entertainment. There is not
even an iota of political commentary in the film. We have
given a great thrust to comedy. It is a mix of drama, sentiment
and action.
Q:
Is it a film to rouse nationalistic feelings?
Vijayakanth:
It could be so. We have driven home the message that we should
be proud of being Indian. We discussed weeding out corruption
in Ramana. Here we stress on the importance of education.
Q:
What is the core of the story?
Vijayakanth:
We have highlighted that outsiders are not responsible for
our problems. We create them ourselves. We have said that
we should stand united above our differences and live with
a spirit of tolerance and kinship.
Q:
Were the action scenes in Sudesi risky?
Vijayakanth:
Yes and one song sequence as well.
Q:
Tell us something more.
Vijayakanth:
This song was shot to showcase our folk arts. About 300 dancers
and more than 3000 junior artistes participated in the shoot
which showed a traditional village carnival. We chose Deevalapatti,
about 40 kms from Pollachi. Srikanth Deva has come up with
a wonderful score.
Q:
You are going to enter politics. Will you continue to act?
Can you ride two horses?
Vijayakanth:
I think I can because I have made up my mind on a few things.
I have decided to stay away from outside productions. I shall
produce and act in my films. There will be no violence or
gore. I shall strive to bring a good message to the viewers.
Good
luck, Captain!
