How did you get into
the music industry?
My entry into music industry
was not just an accident . It
was a planned one. I was not interested
in any other activities. My only
aim was music. One can even say
that it was a gift given to me
by God. That is why I was able
to succeed.
Before coming to film
industry , what were the efforts
taken by you ?
I’ve learnt carnatic music
from many masters . I’ve
learnt about piano from Dhanraj
master. I’ve passed out
piano grade from Trinity College.
I’m still gathering music-related
information. I’m listening
to songs in all languages. I’ve
worked as an assistant with most
of the music directors. All these
efforts will help me in attaining
my aim.
Tell us about your first
experience in Tamil cinema?
:I got two offers at the same
time . One was Middle class
Madhavan, other one was King.
Both these films got me good name.
Which film made you popular
in Tamil industry?
Thiruda Thirudi . Particularly,
Manmadha Rasa song. It is this
song that made me famous from
Nellikuppam to New York.
Can you tell us about
the composing of Manmadha Rasa
song?
Nothing was planned earlier .
The scenes prior to this song
will be fast moving ones. Director
told me to compose a song faster
than these scenes . With our folk
songs in my mind, I composed the
song. In between the songs one
can hear sound of a horse. I did
that to indicate that the song
was filled with such a horsepower.
How did you get the chance
in Thirupachi ?
As my songs was good , it reached
the masses . At that time, R.B.Choudhary
sir told me that he is going to
do a Vijay film. He insisted that
I should be the music director.
The film’s pooja was held
on Diwali. I was given the cheque
on that day itself and was asked
to compose. That is the Diwali
which I will ever remember.
What was the reason for
singing a song in the film Ayudham?
I sang the track for the song
Kootanchoru. Then, we used another
singer to sing the same song.
As the director and producer said
that my voice was good, I sang
the song myself. That was the
reason and I had no desire to
sing a song.
