Interview : Music Director Bharadwaj

Here is an exclusive interview with Music Director Bharatwaj.

He has his unique way of doing things. For last 12 years he has been giving us big hits. Yes, we are going to spare some time with none other than Baradhwaj, genius in music.

Which are the hit films under your music direction?

My hit movies include Kadal mannan, Pooveli, Rojavanam, Amarkalam, Paandavar Boomi, Autograph, Vasool Raja MBBS, Attagasam, Aiya etc.

Which song gives you happiness and a sense of pride?

One can hear songs like Gnyabagam Varude, Ovvoru pookkalume everywhere. Moreover, this song has been inducted in the syllabus of prestigious Madurai University. So, these songs give me happiness and a sense of pride.

How does the desire of releasing music albums come to you?

Quite some time before, I happened to meet Ilayaraja. He had invited me to attend the release of his latest album Thiruvasagam symphony. I was happy about his invitation and I got inspired to release music albums.

What would be the basis of your albums?

If selected hit songs are analyzed, the efforts of music directors and their contribution are obvious. Well, in an album I would take my own concept full of Indian theme and would rely on Tamil culture.

Among melodies and beat songs, which will last forever?

Beat songs will survive until the movie runs in the theatres, whereas, a melody will survive beyond the picture's lease of time in theatres. Melody will last longer for sure. However, there are people who like beat songs, because it suddenly impresses the audience.

Because of the Computer aided Music, is there a set-back for music artistes?

That happened in US quite some time before. Music artistes were to run hither and thither in search of opportunities, because the technology overtakes. Now the case is reversed. Now the computer based music is reduced, and the demand for music artistes has grown there again. You may foresee such a kind of things even here.

In some of your songs, there is some extravagant sex appeal? Is there a way to avoid that kind of things?

Well, we are careful to avoid extravagant sex appeal, but then it is done on the need basis pertaining to the story, situation etc. What I request is to take good songs and ignore if the songs look bad.

Does your music charms Political leaders?

In Murasoli newspaper Kalaignar had written a poem dedicated for the deceased children in the heart rending fire accident of Kumbakonam. I tuned music for the lyrics. Kalaignar was highly impressed with that and appreciated me through one of his letter in the same paper. Similarly, I tuned music for a song for Police voice club. I couldn’t forget the appreciation that I got from Chief Minister Dr. JJ who attended the function.
