A
Karan Johar Production and music
by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, obviously
the expectations will be very
high about the movie and that
applies to the music as well.
With Ranbir in the lead people
will surely be waiting to see
what’s in store. Lets
wait for the movie to release
to give that verdict and analyze
the songs for now.
Wake
Up Sid---
Vocals: Shankar
Mahadevan.
Sounds good to the ears. There
has obviously been an effort
to make this song a very peppy
number. Somehow it sounds a
little typical to the Trio’s
music. May be it’s the
way the song begins very slowly
and then picks up pace! The
music is good when looked individually
but to compare it with other
works of Shankar the song surely
does not come close to title
tracks of Dil Chahta Hai or
Kal Ho Na Ho. Nice use of the
drums and strings.

Kya Karron---
Vocals: Clinton Cerejo,
Dominique Cerejo, Loy Mendonca.
When you listen to this song you would start
tapping your feet. It’s both melodious
and fast. Good experiment with instruments.
The variety of the instruments and the way
they are used certainly adds flavor. There
is a lot of emotion especially the way Clinton
has sung it. In fact when I heard the song
for the first time I was wondering how the
visuals would be. Surely this piece will
be a hit with college goers. Very interesting
lyrics too.
Aaj Kal Zindagi---
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan.
I was reminded of Kaisi Hai Yeh Zindagi
from Dil Chahta hai when listening to this
song. It starts slowly and later picks up
pace. This is a song for those who like
soft, melodious numbers with good lyrics.
Javed Saab has created his magic again with
the words.
Iktara---
Vocals: Kavita Seth, Amitabh Bhattacharya.
Music Director: Amit Trivedi
Kavitha Seth’s voice is very captivating.
A very Hindustani song . There is lot of
emotion in her voice and well supported
by Amitabh. The beginning with the strings
is very captivating and it sets the feel.
The song has a very magical and romantic
tone to it. There is variation and parts
have come out well. This is the only song
composed by Amit Trivedi in this movie and
you have to give it to him. He has done
an excellent job with it. Clearly the best
song of the album.
Life
is Crazy---
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan, Loy
Mendonca, Uday Benegal.
A very poetic and melodious number again.
This one continues the soft feel of the
other songs in the movie. Again the song
will be a hit with teens ..Certainly good
to hum along the way.
Wake
up Sid- Remix---
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan.
Supposedly a remix but there is hardly any
difference between the original and remix
version but for the pace. In fact after
listening to this I feel the original was
not required they could have just stuck
to this version. It is peppy and fast and
much better than the original version.
Verdict:
The songs are truly Shankar Ehsaan Loy style
with a mix of traditional Carnatic / Hindustani
teamed up with rock and western. Amit Trivedi
has a done a good job with his solo composition.
The listeners are bound to fall in love
with at least three numbers and the rest
will grow on you. Pick of the album are
clearly- Iktara and Kya Karron.
A youthful album full of energy.
