When
the title card reads names like Ben Kingsley,
Amitabh Bachchan there is not only a huge
hype but also a great expectation about
the movie. Directed by Leena Yadav, whose
earlier venture was Shabd, the movie revolves
around Amitabh, a mathematician who has
developed a probability that is applicable
to the card game Teen Patti. Thus begins
the suspense thriller.
Life Is a Game...
Vocals: Amitabh Bachchan,
Sonia Sehgal
If James Bond had a title track in Hindi
may be it would sound exactly like 'life
is a game'. The song is very sensuous
and dramatic. Big B begins the song and
comes back many a times in between with
his words of wisdom. Sonia takes over
from with her English vocals. She has
got an amazing voice which is quite enthralling.
The Hindi version is also just as good.
But somehow Sonia’s English rendition
is amazing.

Summertime...
Vocals: Joe Alvares
Yet another Bond like song, so what.. This is something
new to Bollywood, so it’s accepted. The tune
is lively with good and heavy orchestra. Although
the song sounds like one played abroad for casino
scenes it’s quite interesting.
Teen Patti Ke Gulam...
Vocals: Salim Merchant
The title song of the movie is quite peppy and upbeat.
The song is rich with instruments which sets the mood
going. The lyrics talk to you about gambling, greed
and money. This song is completely in Hindi unlike
the earlier two numbers. The remix version is much
peppier because of the fast tempo and beats. One can
expect to hear the remix versions at discos.
Intezar Me Chupa Kahin ...
Vocals: Naresh Kamat
The song begins slowly but the voice is very captivating
so you continue listening. Slowly the tempo increases
dragging you into the song. This number is laced with
rock and fusion tunes and beats. Using the electric
guitar and drums make the song vibrant… Naresh’s
voice is impressive especially his modulations which
suit the tunes perfectly adding life to the song.
Neeyat
Kharab Hai ...
Vocals: Sunidhi
Chauhan
This sizzling song has two advantages; Sunidhi Chauhan
and Mariah. Sunidhi is at her best, impressive and
captivating. Mariah is a Brazilian model who has danced
to the tunes. Sunidhi’s pitch and modulation
take the song to another world. However there is an
influence of Spanish music that could work to the
advantage as the song hits the dance floor. The remix
version has Amitabh Bachan adding a few lines in between.
The original version is better though.
Verdict:
Yet again I mention the songs sound like they have
emerged from a James Bond movie. There are 5 originals
and 3 remix songs in this album. The effort is impressive
but could have been better because of the influence
of English music. But if you look at the album separately,
then the music is good suiting the theme and story
perfectly. The songs have an element of suspense,
they are sensuous and dark. The music is captivating.
However Salim - Sulaiman are good with background
scores as well so let’s look forward to see
what they have done in the movie. |
