Paathshaala,
as the name suggests the movie is set
in the background of a school. Directed
by Milind Ukey, the film stars Shahid
Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, Ali Haji and Nana
Patekar. The story revolves around school
students and lays emphasis on the education
system and its shortcomings in India.
Shahid plays a teacher in this film that
is set to release in April. Music has
been composed by Hanif Sheikh. Hanif is
back after Aakhri Decision which didn’t
bring him much name and fame. He has also
penned the lyrics for this movie. There
are 10 songs, including 5 original songs,
4 remixes, and 1 theme music in the album.
Aye Khuda...
Vocals: Salim Merchant
A very pleasant number that lifts your
mood. The music director has got a singer
who was so far heard only in his own compositions
to sing the song - Salim Merchant. The
song has soft rock tinge with soft western
instruments that makes

the
listening very soothing and enjoyable. Salim has performed
well and his song adds flavor to the song. The lyrics
are simple yet beautiful and easy to catch on. The
song flows beautifully from the beginning to end and
leaves a mark.
The remix version is equally good. Although there
is not much experimentation and the basic remix with
increased tempo, the song will surely be a hit with
youngsters. The drums and keys make you want to tap
your feet to the beats.
Bekaraar...
Vocals: Lucky Ali
It’s been long since we heard Lucky Ali croon.
Just his name on the track makes you want to hear
it. And as expected he leaves his mark with this song.
The music is simple and straight with basic tunes
and beats. Another pleasant number but Lucky’s
voice adds the magic to the song. However, when he
reaches the high pitch you wonder if he found it a
little difficult to sing. There is a strain in the
voice. The mix of instruments and voice is good. The
highlight is on the voice with just the right emphasis
on the instruments when it’s required. This
song also has soft rock mix with Indi pop feel to
it. The lyrics are well written.
Mujhe Teri...
Vocals: Tulsi Kumar, Hanif Shaikh
The song begins well and sets the mood for the romance
in store. Tulsi’s voice is refreshing and new.
Yet again, the music is simple and straight and not
new. But the song has a good ring to it. Hanif accompanies
Tulsi. There is nothing very impressive about his
voice. In fact, in some places it sounds like Sonu
Nigam’s voice. But his efforts need to be applauded.
The lyrics have words that have been used before.
A romantic number that you will begin to like after
hearing many times. This song is also co-composed
by Vijay Lama.
Paathshaala
Khushnuma...
Vocals: Vishal
Dadlani
The song begins with gyan on the education system
and is intriguing. The beats make you want to rock
the dance floor. A very kushi kushi track that is
upbeat. This song will surely not need a remix version
as the tempo beats and tone is just perfect. Vishal
Dadlani (Vishal Shekar duo) has crooned this number.
The song is a treat musically and will have a greater
impact when seen visually.
Teri
Marzi Aye Khuda...
Vocals: Kailash
Kher
The flute at the beginning of the song captures your
attention and on hearing Kailash Kher’s voice
your heart soars with happiness. The song is woven
beautifully with flute table on the instruments, Kailash’s
voice and enticing lyrics. The tune is sweet and traditional.
This is the only song in the album that has more Indian
and less western influence.
Paathshaala
Theme...
The theme
begins with tunes from Aye Khuda but then immediately
takes a complete energetic and different track. The
energy levels get higher as the children are happy
to attend their Paathshaala.
Verdict:
The music is very simple and straight but one can
surely say its better than Hanif’s first album.
May be it was meant to be that way as the music director
cannot afford to experiment until he makes his mark.
Hanif deserves his due credit as three songs sound
well and will surely be picked up by youngsters. The
songs have a soft rock- Indi pop feel to it which
makes the tracks sound familiar. However, the music
is enjoyable and pleasant. One will also be glad to
know that there’s only one remix version for
the songs unlike the albums nowadays which come with
each song having two or more remix versions. A very
simple listening experience that leaves you in a good
mood. |
