Be
ready to welcome back one of
Bollywood’s not just famous
but also favorite combination
of Shah Rukh, Kajol and Karan
Johar - My Name is Khan. Also
in this team is one of Karan
Johar’s favorite music
directors Shankar, Ehsaan and
Loy. With all these names on
board one can naturally expect
the best results. In an age
where music directors are more
interested in giving more remix
versions this album has six
original songs which by itself
makes for a refreshing change.

Vocals: Rahat
Fateh Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan
and Richa Sharma.
The choice of singers for the
first album is deadly and apt
with Rahat and Richa bringing
out the right flavor of the
Sufi music. Soulful rendering
of the song by both the singers,
one could say. The music is
fresh, refreshing and very unlike
the normal package of Shankar’s
team. The rhythm, |

tune, instruments, voices blend well making
you want to hum along. Hearing the tabla,
an instrument which is rarely used nowadays
is a delight by itself.

Vocals: Adnan Sami, Shreya
Ghoshal and Shankar.
The
way Shankar begins the song is so heart
touching that you can’t help falling
in love with it immediately. And as you
close your eyes and get into the song you
slowly realize that it is Adnan who is singing.
The transition is so natural and beautiful
that it would go unnoticed if you don’t
hear intently. A ballad of love, it has
been rendered to perfection. The keys and
rhythm give you the familiar tint of Ehsaan
and Loy and then suddenly is the tabla beat
that adds an Indian flavor to the song making
it even better. And special mention to Niranjan
Iyengar for penning down words that are
amazingly beautiful. To take you deeper
into the song enters Shreya. A sure hit
with the masses and a topper in the chartbusters
this year.

This romantic melody has Shah Rukh written
all over it. One would have to wait and
see the combination of Shah Rukh and Kajol
bring out the magic that is so obvious in
the song. Although the song begins as a
melody it later gets into the qawwali mode
which makes it even interesting to listen
to. And towards the end as the beats pick
up you are bound to be dragged into the
song voluntarily or otherwise. The song
actually reminds you of Yeh ladka Hai Allah
from Kabhie Kushie Kabhie Gham.

Vocals: Rashid

Rashid Ali has poured his heart into this
Sufi song. The lyrics are captivating yet
very simple and beautiful. The music has
the true qawwali flavor with good use of
percussions on the background.

Vocals: Shankar, Suraj Jagan
When the song begins you know that Shankar
– Ehsaan – Loy combination has
composed it. The only song in the album
that is so typically theirs… the usual
rock tunes with Indian and Hindustani tones
thrown in here and there. Although the music
is good, one would doubt how it would fit
into an album that is so richly Sufi.
My
Name Is Khan Theme...
Vocals:
Strings
The
famous Pakistani band Strings have composed
music for the theme song of the movie. The
rhythm is extremely well orchestrated and
moving. It explains clearly the tempo of
the narrative of the movie. One wonders
why they didn’t compose a song for
the movie. Another fact that needs mentioning
and credit is that the music is recorded
live which is very rare in today’s
music world.
Verdict:
A very melodious and interesting album that
will be grabbed by not just the young but
also the mature! Most of the albums but
for one has a rich Sufi blend to it that
goes right to the heart. Due credit has
to go to the lyricist who has penned down
words with so much meaning and weight that
they just glide into the song. Most of the
songs will surely hit the chart busters
and more so after the release of the movie.
A refreshing change not just by the director
but the music director as well. In fact
the album raises ones expectations on the
movie.
