The
latest venture of Dharma Productions,
Kurbaan is not the typical romantic
big banner movie that Karan
normally produces. A story based
on Jihad has Kareena and Saif
playing the lead roles. With
these names on the banner the
expectations are naturally high.
One can expect the music to
not be flashy and grand like
the previous movie: limitation
being the story revolving around
terrorism. There could not be
many a commercial aspect with
the tracks. Salim -Sulaiman
have composed the songs and
Prasoon Joshi has penned the
lyrics.
Shukran
Allah ...
Vocals: Sonu
Nigam, Shreya Ghosal, Salim
Merchant
Just the kind of blast that
the first song of the movie
should make… this song
will surely remind one of Subhan
Allah from Fanaa. The music
is melodious and soothing. Salim
Merchant opens the track with
Shukran Allah and then comes
Sonu to impress with his sweet
divine voice adding the right
emotions. At about three minutes
enters Shreya |

to
complete the song. A deadly combination
one would say. The arrangements are much
synchronized with flute, keys and Indian
beats. There is a pinch of Sufi feel as
well. The pick of the singers is just perfect
matched with Indian music making the song
very melodious and pleasant to listen to.
No doubt this track would be right on the
top of the chartbusters and will have many
fans as well.
Dua...
Vocals: Sukhwinder Singh,
Kailash Kher, Marianne Aiman
The
second song is almost as good as the first
one. Opening with fast beats and guitar
tunes the song sets the feel and this is
heightened as Kailash comes in with his
amazing voice. The English lyrics in the
beginning are sung by Marianne D Cruz. Sukhwinder
adds flavor to the song. With Kailash’s
rustic tones and Sukhwinder’s energy
complementing each other, the song has come
out well. Another interesting factor is
that there is a fusion of Khawali with rock
music. The lyrics are also good. This is
certainly a tune that will be hummed by
many.
Ali Maula...
Vocals: Salim Merchant
A solo track of Salim Merchant Ali Maula
is a very devotional kind of song. The beginning
of the song sets the mood. This song is
situational and could be used as background
score in the movie. Importance has been
given to the voice talent and not to the
instruments. The voice is overpowering which
fits right for the song. There are very
few instruments used and especially Indian
ones. One may not understand the lyrics
the first time but it will sink in after
a few repeats.
Ali Maula (Remix) ...
Vocals: Salim Merchant
The remix version is lot faster. The beats
and the music are very energetic. The song
sounds very soulful. This number will surely
beat the original and hit the tracks. Salim’s
suits this version aptly. A chartbuster
for sure…
Rasiya...
Vocals: Shruti
Pathak
A slow song that actually has a Devdas kind
of feel... Here again importance has been
given to the voice rather than the music.
The instruments are very light and only
in the background. This is a romantic song
that also has a very dark, intriguing, sensual
feel to it. This is another song that has
a Sufi feel to it. Shruti’s voice
is sweet, melodious and sensual. Very impressive
and fits the fusion Indian and western classical
music. The music directors have made an
apt use of her voice.
Kurbaan
Hua ...
Vocals: Vishal
Dadlani
The last song of the album, it’s a
fast racy one. However the song is bound
to remind you of Nazara Hai as this one
is also sung by Vishal. But the beats are
good, a mix of western, rock and Sufi style.
Vishal has added energy to the song. This
song would also suit a fast action or chase
sequence. Yet another song that will hit
the chartbusters for sure…
Verdict:
There are six tracks in the album and all
of them quite different and impressive.
Two songs have a fusion of western, rock
and Sufi feel. The lyrics and the music
synchronies well. The selections of voices
are apt and every singer has given their
best making the album a hit for sure. The
theme of the movie is different so the lyricist
and music director needed to put in extra
efforts and that actually shows in the way
the songs have come out. A very laudable
effort that will surely give the team the
credit they deserve.
