One
would surely be stating the obvious by
saying expectations for this movie flies
as high as a kite. Four years after Krish
the father son duo of Rakesh and Hrithik
Roshan are back with Anurag Basu as the
director. Anurag shot to fame with his
movies like Metro and Gangster. However
instead of Anurag’s favorite music
director Pritam Kites has Roshan’s
favorite music director Rajesh Roshan
who made his work known to the industry
through the likes of Julie. There are
five songs in the album and lyrics have
been penned by Nasir Faraaz and Asif Ali.
Also there are two versions of the movie
the English one without any musical score
and the Hindi version with our desi beats.
Dil Kyun Yeh Mera...
Vocals: KK
The enticing beginning to the song makes
you fall in love with it instantly. And
then you hear KK which makes it even better.
Choice of instruments is amazing especially
as the arrangements drag you into the
song. The beginning is melodious and soft
and slowly the song picks pace, the beats
and rhythm sync in naturally making you
want to sway to the song one minute. If
you are listening to the song without
having seen the visual even once you would
close your eyes and imagine dancing with
your partner to the beautiful tune. Full
credit also to the lyricist Nasir Faraaz. |

The remix version also has KK crooning however the
original has a better impact. This version has a pop,
rocky feel to it where the original was completely
desi.
Fire...
Vocals: Rajesh Roshan, Vishal Dadlani,
and Anushka Manchanda
From the minute the song begins you know it’s
a dance number to highlight the talent of Hrithik
and from the way the music varies from slow to fast,
packed with rhythm you can expect a fire from Hrithik
for sure. Only after the first two minutes vocals
begin and then set you on fire. The singers then get
together to take you through the 80’s feel filled
with western instruments raising your expectations
of the song.
Kites In The Sky...
Vocals: Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne
D’Mello
In the title song of the movie you get to hear Hrithik
croon for the first time. The beginning music is sensuous,
may be because of Suzanne’s voice. The English
track raises high like the kite. Hrithik’s voice
is the apt choice having Spanish on one side and opera
feel on the other. His husky voice gives the song
an even better feel. Instrumentals in the parts are
amazing. A very smooth flowing song beginning slowly
taking you to the peak and bringing you back safely
to ground again…
Tum
Bhi Ho Wahi...
Vocals: Vishal Dadlani and Suraj
Jagan
The soft tune of guitar takes you into the song and
then comes Vishal with his amazing voice. Joining
him very soon on the rock mode is Suraj. There is
not much emphasis on lyrics but the instrumentals
and the tune are rocking. There is a signature tune
in guitar that continues throughout the song. However
this track is not as effective as the other ones.
You have heard soft rock music before and hence this
number will only grow on you.
Zindagi
Do Pal Ki...
Vocals: KK
Even as the music begins you would identify this as
a Rakesh’s composition. And the familiar sound
of KK makes the song sound even more familiar. A very
simple romantic number with simple rendition and basic
instrumental music! The lyrics are however good and
that is one of the reasons why you could add it to
your list of favorites. Also you cannot help but like
the song if you are a fan of KK.
Verdict:
The music is good, one could say especially for the
use of instruments. Its not often you get to hear
Rakesh Roshan’s composition. He does take his
own time but he is welcome as long as he gives us
tracks such as the one in Kites. The variations in
the songs even between the paragraphs are very good.
Something that only a composer of the 80’s would
know and follow! Most of the songs begin softly reach
the peak and the then finish silently making the listening
very peaceful and enjoyable. |
