Abhishek
Chaubey makes his debut by directing
Ishqiya which is a forthcoming
Bollywood crime thriller starring
Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan
and Arshad Warsi in lead roles.
Produced by Raman Maroo and
Vishal Bharadwaj, this movie
is scheduled to be released
on 29th January, 2010. The lyrics
are penned by Gulzar. The soundtrack
listing seven songs (4 original
and 3 remix versions), scored
by Vishal Bharadwaj was released
on 1st January 2010
Dil to bachcha hai...
Vocals: Rahat
Fateh Ali Khan
Remix: Rahat
Fateh Ali Khan and Clinton Cerejo
This song takes you back to
the ‘Raj Kapoor’
times, though Vishal has tried
a variety of world music arrangement.
This shows the timeless flavor.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with his
soothing and stoic vocals has
rendered this song beautifully
giving a Hindustani classical
touch. Gulzar's wordplay has
once again proved his flair
for creativity. This combination
is one which constantly lingers
even after the song is over.
Though this song gives a melodious
feel, it subtly supports the
track with a rhythmic pattern.

Badi Dheere Jali...
Vocals: Rekha Bharadwaj
This
song, sung by Rekha Bharadwaj has a very
lasting appeal than the rest of the songs,
musically. Starting with the divine strings
of tambura, it gives a very mystic feeling
and has been very soulfully rendered - A
total contrast to Rekha’s ‘Namak
isq ka’ from the film Omkara. Set
at a slow pace, it is just the kind of song
that one would like to listen to with eyes
closed to be transported to a totally different
realm. But none-the-less this song will
not be categorized as boring since it also
has the contemporary rhythm which keeps
the song going.
Ibn-E-Batuta...
Vocals: Sukhwinder Singh
and Mika Singh
Ibn-e-batuta has three versions in this
movie – one original and two remixes:
A short and fun number casting the principle
crew. Sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Mika
Singh, it is simple and the most ordinary
tune of all the songs. This comes with a
very folkish touch and explains the embedded
meaning of life and its significant journey.
For the pace of this song, it could become
a hit only if the visuals are shot well.
Ab
mujhe koi...
Vocals: Rekha
Bharadwaj
Rekha Bharadwaj sustains a soft and subdued
flow throughout the song. This is one more
song to prove her versatility in comparison
to her previous songs. The usage of piano,
drums and the strings of guitar is beautifully
shown to mesmerize the audience. Again Gulzar
proves his power to play with words to captivate
the audience.
Verdict:
After the stunning success of ‘Kaminey’,
Vishal has created a niche for himself in
Bollywood. Soundtracks in Ishqiya would
prove this right for sure. Songs like 'Dil
to bachcha hai', 'Badi dheere jali' and
‘Ibn-E-batuta’ are hummable
and have started to find its place in the
chartbusters. So tune in to Ishqiya frequency!
