The
day started off with the keynote address by
Ronnie Screwvala, CEO- Founder chairman of UTV.
He examined the future of the media industry
and specified the mobile industry to be the
most exciting business in the future. He added
'Innovations in the field of mobile industry
is going to be the game changer in the media
industry' and pointed out the audio cinema idea
and its success. Gaming Industry was also considered
a potential super power industry.
The day was rightfully filled by Animation,
Gaming and Visual effects subjects at a time
when FICCI gave out the BAF awards (Best Animated
Frames). And almost in all the sessions they
discussed the bright future for India in the
virtual field. Mumbai and Chennai particularly
were pointed out to be one among the best in
the animation centers in the virtual world map.
The session on 'Legal and Financial Framework
to Boost the Entertainment' Industry was well
received. The need for properly acquiring the
remake rights was discussed in full. Netherlands
being one of the partners the next session on
Movies was 'MOVIE MAKING IN THE NETHERLANDS'
for Indian movies to be shot in Netherlands
and the market of Netherlands movies in India
and abroad.
What followed was 'The Great Film Debate: Do
Film Reviews Matter?', the session was attended
by Karan Johar, Lawrence Bender, Anurag Kashyap,
Vanita Kohli and Komal Nahta. Karan Johar with
his usual vigor and passion hit back against
reviewers and especially the Online Film critics.
Anurag Kashyap talked about the importance of
the reviewers and the need for a reviewer with
a passion for cinema. But overall they come
to a common consensus that reviews in India
don't matter but for small movies there is a
need for the producers to understand the power
of the reviews and the reviewers and use them
wisely for their own benefit.
In the session of 'Screenplay: Indian cinema's
missing link' the panelists talked about the
need for proper understanding of the director,
screenplay writer and producer and the lack
of quality original screenplays. The session
also highlighted the need for the screenplay
writers to be given more prominence and importance.
Finally, it was time for the BAF awards and
Big Animation got 3 awards for their Little
Krishna followed closely by Avatar with 2. For
