Several
Bollywood production houses plan to collaborate
with the Motion Picture Association of America
(MPAA) to counter the piracy issue that has
been threatening the film industry. This was
disclosed at the FICCI. Some of the production
houses that will join this coalition to counter
piracy are Reliance Big Entertainment, Yash
Raj Films, UTV Motion Pictures and Eros International.
Dan Glickman, Chairman of the MPAA said that
film industry in India loses about $1 billion
due to piracy.
The Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika
Soni said, “In 2013, the entertainment
industry will celebrate 100 years of Indian
Cinema and I do not want the film fraternity
to be unhappy over the double taxation which
cramps their possibility of making more cinema.”
