The age old hypothesis that
the audience is the unpredictable
final judge came true for this
weeks surprise number 1. A movie
which got mixed reviews has
ended up becoming the 4th highest
first week grosser in Bollywood
industry. Rajkumar Santhoshi's
'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani'
has taken an earth shattering
41 crores in the first week
to become the 2nd movie to cross
the 40 crore opening and in
the all time list trailing only
behind Gajini, Singh is King
and Kambhakkht Ishq. Ajab gave
the young Ranbir his first super
hit and continued the lucky
streak of Katrina Kaif, not
including the Katz forgettable
special appearance in this year’s
dud Blue.
'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani'
has become Rajkumar Santhoshi's
first hit since 1996's Ghayal
and also completes the hat-trick
hits for Ranbir with Bachna
ae Haseeno and Wake up Sid.
The movie looks good enough
to crack the 80 crore net but
being such a cramped week with
biggies coming every week (Kurbaan
and De Dana Dan releasing this
month) it would be interesting
to see how Ajab is going to
perform after the second week.
On the other end 'Jail' ended
up on the lower side with a
total week's collection unable
to beat Ajab's first day collection.
Madhur's 'Jail' was showered
with mostly negative reviews
and ended up with a first week
collection of 7 crores. It looks
at a 12 crore final net. A big
misfire from the talented Madhur
Bhandarkar!
