Shaapit-
The Cursed is definitely a horror movie
and like his previous offerings Vikram
Bhatt takes a rather interesting subject
and an interesting plot to make a movie
which can be enjoyed as an unintentional
comedy with some genuine frights occasionally.
The bhoot in the movie might seem to look
like a Ramsay movie's rip but they have
given it a computer generated glow which
makes it completely original so to speak.
The story is about a 300 year old curse
on a family affecting the heroine and
how the hero fights against all odds to
get together with the help of a professor,
a friend, two helpful ghosts and a handful
of songs which help him to ease his pressure.
Why does a ghost movie need songs? And
that too an item song in the 17th century
with belly dancers, wah Vikram wah!
Yes logical liberties are allowed for
a horror but |

you should still stay in a limit. All the bhoot preth
seem to pounce on the hero from a real long distance
and surprisingly so only against him. And the distance
usually gives him the time to escape. The most thrilling
one being a gaseous state ghost trying to open a loosely
locked door and Aditya just in the nick of time jumping
out of the window and escaping, the same ghost who
locked the door and threw him off just minutes earlier.
Vikram Bhatt should be credited for creating the eerie
atmosphere, something that a lot of horror directors
fail to get.
The movie does boast of an innovative cinematography
by Pravin Bhatt, immature dialogue writing from Girish
Dhamija, tacky visual effects and unrealistic sets
by Rajat Poddar. Rather decent background music by
Raju Rao who does put silence to good use (thankfully!).
Decent editing and a good musical score by Chirantan
Bhatt, Nazam Sheraz and Aditya Narayan.
The acting department led by Aditya Narayan who is
making his debut as the protagonist, seems to be totally
miscast. He overdoes the romantic scenes, completely
unrealistic in the emotional scenes but surprisingly
brilliant in the scenes where he shows helplessness.
Shweta Agarwal looks good but also needs to work on
her emotions and thankfully is laid off in a coma
half way in to the movie. Rahul Dev was decent but
not great. Shubh Joshi needs to work more on his acting
skills as well.
Overall the movie lacked the depth and had below average
acting. Good story, tacky visual effects, haywire
logic, decent soundtrack and average direction...
I guess that sums it all. If you are into Ramsay movies
and are not getting any of his old classics you should
give Shaapit a shot.
Verdict:
Cursed!! Really!!!
