KHJJS is based on a novel 'Do and Die' by Manini Chatterjee,
which is based on the Chittagong Uprising of 1930.
Since this is a real incident in Indian history, Ashutosh
has taken great care to ensure that the facts shown
are real. KHJJS is a little-known chapter in history;
a forgotten night that reigned terror on the British
through a series of calculated attacks by revolutionaries.
The attacks revolve around Masterda Surya Sen, who
was the leader of the revolutionaries, his planning,
motivation, escape and his eventual capture. It will
be interesting to see how far has Ashutosh delved
in showing the story on screen.
Ashutosh is known for being a perfectionist when it
comes to his movies. Be it grandeur, research or planning,
he ensures that his movies showcase authenticity as
much as it can. After Lagaan and Swades, KHJJS will
see him direct yet another patriotic movie. With the
selection of story and a dekho at the trailer and
promos, we can expect yet another inspiring movie
from the director. KHJJS has been extensively shot
in Goa and in Mumbai.
Surya Sen's role will be enacted on screen by Abhishek
Bachchan. He was last seen on the silver screen in
Mani Ratnam's Raavan. Judging by the trailers, Abhishek
sports a very serious and patriotic look which is
all that the movie is about. Deepika Padukone will
be seen as Kalpana Datta in the movie. After a relatively
walk-in-the-park role in Break Ke Baad, Deepika will
be seen in an entirely new avatar. Kalpana Datta has
an important role in the movie. The duo will be assisted
by Vishaka Singh, Sikhander Kher and others, who will
play the other revolutionaries in the movie.
The music of such a patriotic and period film is of
great importance. And Sohail Sen has taken this responsibility
on his shoulders. Having worked with Ashutosh in 'What's
your Rashee', he has clearly understood the director's
requirements and this is evident from the songs of
KHJJS. Having got wide appreciation, the songs, when
seen on screen, should inspire us a lot. The cinematography
has been handled by Kiran Deohans and Seetha Sandhiri.
The cutting and chopping department is headed by Dilip
Deo.
The movie has gathered enough attention from the time
the promos were released. This will also be the first
time that Deepika and Abhishek will share screen space.
It will also be interesting to see how Ashutosh fares
as his last movie,’ What’s your Rashee’,
did not fare so well at the box-office.
With an acclaimed director, a very impressive lead
pair, an inspiring period story and enthralling music,
it would be interesting to see how KHJJS fares at
the box office. With Break ke Baad receiving mixed
reviews, this movie could come as a saving grace for
the talented Deepika. Let us hope KHJJS brings about
a revolution in the box office as the Chittagong Uprising’s
impact did to Indian history in 1930.
