There has been a hushed campaign for reducing the cost of production of Tamil films, the major chunk being accounted for by star fees. Therefore, the producers’ guild passed a resolution that the appearance rates for lead actors and actresses should be brought down to realistic levels. On behalf of the actors, Captain Vijaykanth has supported the move. Further, the guild has also decided to do away with excessive facilities like air-conditioned caravan, too many attendants etc. These moves have raised a murmur of protest from the actors who have been a pampered lot so far.
