Most of the top heroines in Tamil play homely roles with just a dash of glamour. However, once they hop to Telugu, they do not mind the aggressive, bimbo roles. Classic examples are Sridevi, Amala and Ramya Krishnan. They have played many script-backed roles in Tamil. Yet there are countless Telugu films in which they have remained forgettable prop for the hero to prance around when he is not roughing up the thugs. So also, some actresses like Urvasi, play the hero’s mother or sister in other languages but insist only on heroine roles in Tamil. Why this approach?
