Rajkiran with his rugged looks and rustic persona made a huge impact. He was the one who made Meena perform a powerful role of a suffering wife in En rasavin manasile. He was also responsible for giving Vadivelu the toehold in the industry. The Rajkiran-Ilayaraja combination spelt several hit songs. For his last film, Manickam with Vanitha Vijayakumar, he demanded a fee of Rs. 1 crore. The film fell flat on its face. Then he virtually vanished. He resurfaced in Cheran’s Pandavar Bumi. Now, he has broken out of hibernation and acted in Sevvel as Jai Akash’s father. In another film called Vithagan directed by Vijay Ilayabarathi he plays the hero. Vithagan is expected to give him the much needed break for a reentry.
