Sister Jayarani, Correspondent of St.Joseph’s Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Madurai has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the exhibition of Kadhal. The petition said that the school has a 72 year old history. The movie however, shows the heroine as a student of the school who falls in love with an auto mechanic and both elope. They live as man and wife when the girl is rescued. She is married off to another and the mechanic turns lunatic. In the movie, the school’s name is shown in 6 scenes and the uniform worn by the heroine and other girls closely resembles the school’s. This has caused disrepute to the school and traumatized the students. Also parents are wary of sending their daughters to the school. Hence, the petitioner has sought a stay on the movie. The Judge has called for explanation from the producer Shanker.
