Cast: Kamal
Hassan, Manisha Koirala, Nazzar,
Pasupathi, etc ...
Music: Illayaraja
Lyrics: Vaali
The film was in the news for
many controversies like the
title, spat with the censors
for a song sequence and the
postponement of release date.
Kamal shot the film entirely
in Mumbai and most of the post
production was also done there.
The film is canned fully in
digital format and will be released
in those theaters which are
enabled for the purpose.
The film’s team has several
familiar faces from Kamal’s
stable. It is directed by Singeetham
Srinivasa Rao and music is by
Kamal’s favorite Illayaraja.
Kamal himself has handled the
story and the screenplay. The
audio cassettes of the film
have been produced and marketed
by Raj Kamal audio’s as
its maiden venture.
Veteran Kamal had a complete
makeover from Vasool Raja. He
plays a deaf motor bike race
driver who teams up with the
unlikely gang of Pasupathi,
Vaiyapuri and LIC agent Ramesh
Aravind, who kidnaps the ten
year old son of Manisha Koirala
for a ransom. How their plan
goes awry and the subsequent
goof ups forms the rest of the
story. Manisha is the mistress
of Police officer Nasser. Kamal
has a change of heart and rescues
the child and protects both
mother and son.
Pasupathi who was the murderous
villain in Virumandi plays the
rollicking comedy role with
aplomb. Kovai Sarala is Kamal’s
sister. The film has impeccable
production values and in a risky
action scene on a motor bike,
kamal did not use a double.
Kamal's repertoire is versatile
and we hope Mumbai Express
chugs along into the viewers
hearts.
